At the mouth of the Duong Dong River Estuary in Duong Dong city, you will find the most well-known attraction on Phu Quoc Island, the Dinh Cau Temple and Lighthouse. This is right in the heart of the town amidst the main tourist area, just a 15-minute drive from Novotel Phu Quoc Resort.
Dinh Cau was built in 1937 and dedicated to the Vietnamese Goddess of the sea, Thien Hau. She is worshipped throughout Asia. Originally called Lin Mooning, she was a proficient swimmer and would swim out to sea wearing a bright red dress to guide ships in dangerous conditions to safety. She died in the year 987 and has been honoured ever since.
Climb the 29 winding stone steps to reach the temple, where there is a pleasant terrace overlooking the town. This family-friendly attraction has no entrance fee.
